Is a video consultation suitable for you?

For adults whose symptoms can be assessed by video. The doctor decides whether this is possible in your case.

Symptoms that may be suitable

  • Colds, coughs and sore throats
  • Stomach and bowel complaints
  • Migraine and tension headaches
  • Back pain and muscle tension

Not suitable for

  • Certificates for more than 3 calendar days
  • Extensions of a certificate already issued
  • Certificates for children
  • Emergencies or symptoms requiring an examination in person

A certificate is possible only when recognised professional standards do not require an examination in person. If video is insufficient, you need an examination at a medical practice or another suitable care facility.

Costs and reimbursement

You pay for the medical consultation. The fee also applies if the doctor does not find you unable to work.

  • People with statutory health insurance pay themselves. Statutory insurers generally do not reimburse this private service.

  • People with private insurance or civil service health benefits may submit their invoice. Reimbursement depends on their plan.

  • You receive a private medical certificate as a PDF for your employer. There is no eAU and no transmission to your health insurer.

Clear answers to your questions

What to know before making your request.

How long is the certificate valid?

For up to 3 calendar days in total, including any backdated days. Weekends and public holidays count. The doctor decides on the duration.

Can the certificate be backdated?

The certificate normally starts on the consultation date if the medical assessment confirms incapacity for work. Backdating requires a careful medical assessment and this service limits it to three days. A plausible account alone does not establish entitlement; the doctor must assess the individual clinical findings. Certificates cover at most three calendar days in total, including any days before the consultation. This service does not extend existing certificates; contact a medical practice if further assessment is needed. Contact us on the first day of illness where possible and describe your symptoms truthfully.

What does my employer see?

The certificate includes your name, the issue date, the period of incapacity for work and the doctor’s details. It does not include a diagnosis.

How does my employer receive the certificate?

The private certificate is available as a PDF in your patient account. You provide it to your employer. There is no eAU or transmission to your health insurer.

How much does the consultation cost?

You pre-authorise €10.72 (GOÄ no. 1, factor 2.3). At booking the amount is only reserved. The amount actually incurred under the GOÄ is charged only after the consultation; you receive the invoice as a PDF. With a visual examination in line with GOÄ no. 5, the fee is €21.44 before time supplements. The consultation is charged even if no certificate is issued. Time supplements depend on the services provided and the conditions of the German medical fee schedule. Supplement B is €10.49 outside consultation hours between 8 and 10 pm or 6 and 8 am. Supplement C is €18.65 between 10 pm and 6 am; it cannot be combined with B. Supplement D is €12.82 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, reduced to €6.41 during Saturday consultation hours. Between 8 pm and 8 am, D may combine with B or C when their conditions apply. The total price comprises the applicable consultation fee plus any supplements permitted in your case. If no consultation takes place, the reservation is released; cancellation details are explained in the terms.

Will my insurance cover the cost?

People with statutory insurance pay themselves. Statutory insurers generally do not reimburse this private service. Reimbursement by private insurers or civil service health benefits depends on the plan.

Can I extend the certificate by video?

No. If your symptoms persist for more than 3 calendar days, please contact a local medical practice or the medical on-call service on 116 117.

Does my employer have to accept the certificate?

A properly issued medical certificate generally carries substantial evidential weight when proving incapacity for work. Specific circumstances can undermine that evidence; a court assesses the available evidence if a dispute arises. We therefore cannot guarantee acceptance or a particular outcome in your individual employment dispute.
